Persepolis

Persepolis was the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid Empire (ca. 550-330 BCE), located in modern-day Fars Province, Iran. Built on a massive terrace complex carved into a mountain, it covers approximately 125,000 square meters. The site features monumental staircases, massive columned halls, and intricate stone reliefs depicting scenes from various nations of the empire. The most impressive structures include the Gate of All Nations, the Apadana Palace (Audience Hall), the Throne Hall (Hundred-Column Hall), and the Treasury. The architecture combines elements from multiple cultures, including Assyrian, Egyptian, and Greek influences, creating a unique Persian style characterized by massive stone platforms, elegant columns, and elaborate sculptural reliefs.
